Chigwell Row Guide Campsite

The following page lists details of activities available on-site. Please book with the warden in advance, to ensure that the activities and any site instructors required are available. Most activities do not require specialised instruction qualification, just the presence of a leader. Where specialised instruction is required, this is noted in the description. For costs, please see the price lists available on the downloads page.

TurfBoarding

Taking place on our custom build turf slope, Turfboarding takes all the fun of surfboarding, but without getting wet!

Archery
Archery takes place April - October in our purpose built archery range. All equipment is provided and instruction is available upon request. If providing your own instructors, they need to hold the Guide Association GNAE qualification. Suitable for ages 7 and over. Additional Picture

Pedal Go-Karts
Pedal Go-karts are run on a concrete track and are great fun for ages 5 upwards. They are available all year, weather permitting . Up to four Karts can be run at the same time, and helmets and safety information are provided.

Grass Sledging
Grass Sledging is available April - October and are suitable for 7 - 14 year olds. The sledges run down a steep slope adjacent to 'Oaklands Lodge' with a run-off area at the bottom. Helmets and safety information is provided. Additional Picture.

Indoor Climbing
Climbing is available all year round on our indoor climbing facility. The wall caters for beginner to intermediate climbers, with low level 'bouldering' also available. All equipment is provided and instruction is available upon request. If providing your own instructors, they need to hold the Guide Association climbing leadership qualification. Suitable for ages 7 and over. Additional Picture

Abseiling
Abseiling is available May - September, weather permitting. It takes place on our 10 metre outdoor abseiling tower and is suitable for ages 10 and over. All equipment is provided and instruction is available upon request. If providing your own instructors, they need to hold the Guide Association abseiling leadership qualification. A new, all weather abseiling tower is currently being planned. Watch this space for further details!

Splash Pool
The Splash Pool is available June - August, weather permitting. This is a popular warm-weather activity and takes place in our 12 foot round pool. The pool is provided with fun inflatables and is under a sunshade, and because of the limited size and depth (this is not a swimming pool!), a lifeguard qualification is NOT required, however a qualified first aider should be on poolside at all times.

Bouncy Castle
New for 2004, a 15 foot square bouncy castle is available for hire, either on your site or in a central location.

Trampoline Station
A pair of fourteen foot round trampolines, complete with safety enclosures are available, suitable for all ages. Almost guaranteed to tire out your girls.Additional Picture.

Pioneering
Pioneering equipment is available to build your own projects. It consists of pioneering poles, ropes of varying thickness and length, blocks, tackles and pulleys.

Field Games
A selection of five of the following games are available for hire. Choose from:
Croquet, Volleyball, Clock Golf, Table Tennis, Quoits, Large Pushball, Parachute, Basketball/Netball, Football, Carpet/Groundsheet Bowls, Swing Ball, Lawn Darts, Rounders.

Giant Games
A selection of large-scale games are available for hire:
Giant Jenga, Giant Connect-Four, Ludo, Snakes & Ladders, Bowls, Dominoes, Hopscotch, Quoits, Giant Pick-up Sticks, Jokari, Noughts & Crosses.

Puzzle Pack
A selection of puzzles to keep 25 people of all ages happy either all afternoon or evening. Games to play in small groups, individual puzzles to figure out. Only for use in the buildings or in the Craft Hut, if camping.

Orienteering
There are three courses of varying lengths to suit all abilities available. Instruction is available if required, but must be booked in advance. Punches can also be provided to use at the various points or to make up your own course or activity.

Photo Trail
The photo trail is a trail that takes you round most of the site, where the participants have to use observation skills to locate the next location depicted in the photograph.

Owl Trail / Dolphin Trail
These trails are specially designed with Brownies in mind! Lay your own trail around the site using the fluorescent/reflective owls or dolphins provided.

Campsite Trail
A walk around the site with things to do on route.

Village Trail
A walk around the local village.

Badge Making
A badge making machine is available for hire, which can make metal badges of your own design.

Craft Hut
Available to use and equipped with paintbrushes, glue spreaders, pens, pencils, paper, etc. Bring your own materials or use what we have. We also have people available to run a craft activity with your group. Please contact the warden to discuss your requirements. The hut also has power sockets and electric lights.

Guide / Brownies Own box
Available to borrow free of charge, contains song books, prayer books, readings, etc.
